OHC has completed the change to 501c3. Donations are now tax deductable. The new Oak Openings manager is Mackenzie Huber. The 5 mounting stands need work. New signage is coming in OO. HHYEC is getting a new sign ~$1600. They got an $800 donation from NWOHC. We will pay the balance. Trail out of HHYEC is still closed. Our showcase ride will be June 4, National Trails day. Lunch will be 11-1 at the rider center. There will be a feed/nutrition seminar at J&B on April 6 at 5:30. 33 members and guests attended at Bunkers.

Events added to calendar include: -camping at Farmlane riding at Waterloo May 20-22 (club event, 10 spots reserved and spoken for, call Farmlane 734.260.9009 for reservations) -Pleasant Hill Lake Promotional Ride June 17-19 (general interest) -Confidence Course clinic July 16-17 at WB Ranch (general interest) -HHYEC Spring Cleanup April 23 and 30 (general interest)~20 people attended the second Winter Blues Brunch at Firepit Grill. Per Jack, the tree clearing in the Maumee State Forest adjacent to HHYEC should be done by April 1. Jack has spoken to MSF about having a new trail connecting the separated sections of the MSF. We will be walking and mapping out a proposal to submit a request. They are reportedly receptive to the idea. Contact Jack if you'd like to contribute/participate/help. There is a new manager for Oak Openings - Mackenzie. Mounting stands in the MSF have been fixed up, repaired and painted. We will be doing the 5 in Oak Openings this year. Contact Jack if you are interested in helping. We are still anxious to get the trees trimmed in the parking area at the Rider Center. Oak trees need to be trimmed in the winter. The park has not addressed this nor will they let us do it. The new bridge on the Wabash Cannonball Trail near Springbrook is slippery when wet. We are brainstorming for a fix to request. Contact Jack if you have an idea. Sponsorships approved: NW Ohio Driving Circuit (last month), Beverly Upell Memorial Show, HHYEC new sign. Jack suggested that we do our showcase ride on National Trails Day June 4 at the rider center, Jeffers Rd. Hotdogs 11-2; use the shelter, picnic tables, Leroy will provide the grill. This is part of the NW region 50th anniversary celebration. Good Stuff: Jack has a horse stock, high wheel cart and complete stall for sale. Kenny has a lead on hay. The HHYEC scholarship applications are available; contact Al Staler. 26 members attended at Bunkers. 25-30 members attended the first Winter Blues Brunch at Das Essen Haus in Wauseon.
Some members attended the nutrition seminar at J&B Feed. It was reported to be a good one. We will be hosting a showcase ride for the NW region as part of the OHC 50th Anniversary celebration. It will ride out of the Jeffers Rd. riders' center; date TBD. Other showcase rides will be at Edison Woods in Berlin Heights (Erie Co.), White Star in Gibsonburg (Sandusky Co.), Van Buren in Van Buren (Hancock Co.) and somewhere in Lima (Allen Co.). The events page on the website has been updated to contain known events for 2022 - FCOHC, state OHC and general interest. Bonnie would like to retire as chairperson of the Christmas party committee. We need a volunteer. We will no longer be able to ride out of Royers' as they no longer have room for trailer parking. Jack stopped and checked out the facilities at Beach Ridge on Rt 64. The bar is not open yet but he noticed there are nice restrooms with showers there. FYI TRAIL MILES ARE DUE TO JO. Winter Blues Brunch #1 will be Saturday Jan. 22, 9 a.m. Das Essen Haus in Pettisville/Wauseon. Jones Livestock in Wauseon has an auction the same day. The NW Regional rep, Al Sidell, has stepped down due to term limits. Our new rep is Sharon Smith who ran unopposed. The mentor is Joan Miller. NW district is Fulton, Wood, Defiance, Allen, Erie, Sandusky, Hancock counties. We will likely not see much change. The State Membership meeting in March in Delaware is still on at this point. NW region is hosting this one, and we are in charge of the 50/50 raffle. There will be a silent auction. Volunteers needed, contact Jack. There will be an OHC booth at Equine Affair. Volunteers likely needed. Jack has been in contact with several people in Kentucky following the devastating storm. Reportedly, the poultry and cattle communities were hit hard and asking for help. There has been no requests for equine help or horse campgrounds help. We feel there is no appropriate donation to be made at this time. NW Region is holding off at this time as well. A request was received from the NW Ohio Driving Circuit to be a show sponsor. A donation was proposed and approved. This year is the 50th anniversary for OHC. There is anniversary apparel on the website and Jack is going to see if there are logo stickers. There will be 5 showcase rides in NW Ohio with one at Oak Openings. Date TBD. Connie is willing to do another poker run but prefers to NOT have it in conjunction with another activity. A scavenger hunt was also suggested. Something may be done in conjunction with our showcase ride. 23 members attended at Bunkers Bar & Grill. The 2022 club calendar has been started. It is one list at this point with club and other events listed chronologically so that it is easy to plug in things as we learn about/plan them. It will be separated into club and other after Jan. 1. If you have suggestions or ideas, bring them to the club. We will be doing the Derby party, chili cook off and Oaktoberfest events at RRR again this year.
Fat Saturday pics are up on the website, provided by Sandy B. There were 10 riders, mostly new faces for this event. The email list is being updated for 2022. If you do not renew you will be dropped by Feb. Christmas boxes will be delivered the week of Dec 13. Snack items are needed, please get them to Jo or Connie by Sunday Dec.12. We don't have much donated and will be doing 2 boxes. The tack swap went well. Five reserved vendors did not show up but 5 unexpected ones did for a total of 67 spots. The Christmas party was a success with ~60 people attending. There was good food, fun games and visiting with acquaintances and friends. It was great to see Buster there. Debbie Vaughan took pictures of the event and of all attendees. Suggestions for next year include have it catered, have music like a band, have it at Otsego park. The State OHC membership meeting is available on Facebook if anyone is interested. Go to the Ohio Horseman's Council facebook page and look for the recorded sessions - I think there's 6. New Years Day ride will be hosted by Tammy Royer. Ride out at noon, snacks at 3. Need not ride to snack! Winters Blues brunches are being planned for Jan. and Feb. Jan 22 at Pettisville, Das Essen Haus is tentative, Jack will be checking on availability. Feb. 20 at Firepit Grill is being considered. Suggestions are welcome. A bus trip to a rodeo in Mar. was suggested as an activity - Hat Creek Arena, or Owosso MI, or Shipshewana were suggested. We will be looking into this. Jack provided Buster's address for Christmas cards. Get your trail miles in to Jo by the Jan. meeting which will be JANUARY 10. 2022 is the 50th for OHC and celebratory events are planned for throughout the year. There is also apparel with the 50th logo which can be ordered through state OHC. If ordered now, it can be picked up at the Jan. 16 meeting in Delaware to avoid shipping. If interested, contact Jack. Mike Gentry spoke about a fellowship weekend that will be on the third weekend in January at the Berlin Grand Hotel in Amish country. 19 members and guests attended at Bunkers Bar & Grill. Same for the New Years Day ride. It was suggested to have presentation(s) at the tack swap i.e. Tribute Feeds. Set up will be Saturday evening, 6 pm. Open to set up Sunday 7 am. Connie and Jo will handle the Chinese raffle, Sandy will handle the 50/50, there may be two. There is a 10% commission on the auction. The Christmas party invitations were distributed. Reservations due to Jo by Nov. 20. Guests are welcome. The 2022 Regional Ride will be Sept. 23-25 at Van Buren. This year's ride was a big success . OHC's 50th anniversary is next year and they are planning showcase rides at various parks in the state, i.e. Edison Woods, Van Buren, Gibsonburg, Oak Openings. These will be day rides. Start thinking about tabulating your trail miles. They'll need to be turned in to Jo by mid January. We will be doing 2 Christmas boxes for park personnel. Bring non-perishable snacks to the Christmas party, tack swap or Dec. meeting. Other items, i.e. fruit, can be turned in last minute. Jo and Connie put these together and deliver them. A bar is being developed in the Wheelhouse at Beachridge on SR64. We received notice that the State Forest horse trails will be closed Nov. 29 until April. Jack will call to get more info. OHC seems to be supporting this; some members are upset and have contacted state OHC. Next meeting will be Dec. 6 at Bunkers. 32 members and guests attended at Bunkers. Trina has stepped down from writing the Corral articles. Kathy Brown will pick that up. Submit ideas/info/pics to her. It was suggested to have a membership booth at the tack swap. Kate R. volunteered. Tack swap raffles - regular, 50/50 and silent auction were suggested. Sandy B. will facilitate. A donation to HHYEC was discussed. Katti L. spoke about the announcer bldg. repair/replacement project. A drive in movie is planned for Sat. night after the ride a thon to help raise money. A donation to Pontiac Lake Horseman's Assoc. to help repair the tornado damage was discussed. We've been told that, sometime ago, we adopted the trail from RRR to Springbrook to maintain. No one recalls this and we will need to check. Brad Hoven is the person Jack deals with at OO. Nomination of officers for 2022: current officers nominated Mike G. spoke about Ghost town in Findlay which is changing to an equine facility, 100 acres, looking for ideas. Tack Swap flyers were available. Mounting stands at HHYEC, MSF on CR B and 64 have been cleaned up and painted. The stand at the lake needs repaired and painted. Contact Jack if interested. The bridge on the Rails to Trails near the boy scout camp is going to be replaced. It will be 12 ft wide with a new surface and side rails. We will do a trail cleanup out of Reed Rd on Aug. 14 at 4 p.m. The chili cookoff will be Aug. 14. There will be a prize chair for the chili winner as well as prizes for 2nd and 3rd. Olympic games are being planned by Jack. The poker run on Oct 3 will ride to the lake and should be done by 3 pm. Prizes are needed. Volunteers are needed - 2 to check in riders, 2 to mark the trail the night before. Contact Connie. Help is needed at HHYEC to run shows Aug 21, 22 and Sept 4. Contact Katti Leitner. 25 members and guests attended at Bunkers Bar & Grill. FCOHC Chili Cookoff will be Aug 14 at RRR (camping Aug 13-15). Prizes will be awarded with a camp chair to first. Activities for Saturday include trail cleanup 4 pm, happy hour 5-6 pm, potluck 6 pm followed by campfire and activities (mystery game by Jack).
Oaktoberfest will have organized dinner/events on Saturday only. The HHYEC Ride A Thon is the next day (Sunday). Connie is chairing a Poker Run which will start at 10 am to be held in conjunction with the RAT as an extra, optional event. Lunch should be 1-2 pm, done by 3. The PR will be on the south loop, $10/hand, $1/extra card. Hands may be drawn before or after the ride and as many as desired. Prizes will be awarded. Volunteers are needed - contact Connie. 10 riders have reserved to go to Farmlane/Waterloo, organized by LeRoy. (This event was cancelled due to weather.)
